About the pack

facepack - 40 texts defies the conventions of poetry publishing. facepack is not a book.

Sue Moss's latest collection is a series of forty poetry and image cards contained in a plastic zip-up wallet. The cards re-present a diversity of faces across different contexts and time-frames along with responses to these faces.

Assisted by a grant from Arts Tasmania, facepack explores the paradox of the face - its actual and illusory qualities.

'The face' Moss comments 'is an anatomical structure overlaid with skin, yet it remains central to our world and identity. We praise, fear, envy, love and desire the face.'

Faces saturate our visual space. Faces loom from billboards. Faces are projected onto screens at political rallies, rock concerts and fashion shows.

'Each person is a walking self-portrait and many give the face the same amount of attention as a portrait artist do their subjects', Moss said.
